O wild and sacred Ibis,
Long beaked bird of the Nile,
Now home on the marsh of Macquarie
0 bird with such elegant style.

Black, white and straw-necked,
Gathering where the waters drain;
Probing the teeming, living mud,
Cheek by jowl with the night crane.

O glorious morning in Australia free,
Warm and dry and a pale blue sky,
Cotton wool clouds in white pattern
Lives Ibis the bird of winged fraternity.

Far from the land of the Pharaohs,
Yet sharing the gypsy life-style,
Land of Australia, land that is free
Is home to the Ibis, bird of the Nile
